100% agreed, the sounds and looks of the JP are awesome, but the let down is the feel of the synth, cheap.

Yeah - JP8K sounds and looks awesome... too bad there has never been an updated version which offers the additional features from the 8080...

The JP8k is a monster, he can make many sounds and amazing effects
And the look, WOOOOOW
But it looks a bit "kling klang"...

As I already have the Microkorg and the Nordlead, I don't feel like I need more VA's, but it's like the JP8000 can offer something special, so I really can use another VA.

When I decide what gear I am interested in, the look is very important. The JP8000 looks modern but still retro in some way, which makes it fit pretty well into a retro setup. Just look at the Oxygene tour setup.

As I am a trance freak also, I find especially the supersaw very cool.

Feedback Oscillator is THE must have
I'll buy a microKORG for Xmas, and a JD800 is planned, same for the NordLead, because I love sounds of these machines, they are in fact all different !

Best looking Synth ever made,I have the Rack(8080) and Synth(8000) too,the only thing i think is negative about the JP8000 is that Roland should have made it using Metal casings(like the original Jupees) instead of shitty plastic,and the Potentiometers Quality is pretty abismal for a synth of its stature a bit if excessive use and i think they would need replacing,and i wish that the Patches were a little more cross compatible between the rack and synth,there are some patches I've made on the Rack that i cant replicate exact on the Synth due to disrepancies in Oscillator choices on Oscillator 2 on the Synth....

Some of my pots are "scrintch scrintching" when I turn them, it is the case for the ones for delays and the one for arpegiator...
Is it the same to you ?

When i bought My JP8K a couple of the pots didn't function as they should.for instance the Osc "Range " pot would always make the range jump to -24,no matter which way i moved the pot,which was quite annoying and also the Volume Pot would never stay at the level it was set,you only had to move it slightly and it would jump to zero Volume,I replaced the Pots with some new ones from Roland and they've been working as they should since....

Never had a problem with my rack,but thats more than likely because i look after my gear ,and had the rack from new,hence probably why the synth was in need of Repair,seeing as it was secondhand,and obvious that the previous owners weren't as caring for the synth as I am(thankfully its in safe hands now )

It could be as GJ has said that the contacts are dirty,as is the normal case when you get scratchy pots(i had this on my old Behringer mixing desk and all was needed was a clean up with compressed air to blow out the dirt)but given that the Pots on the Rolands seem to be very poor Quality(Phaser effect will back me up on this one) and the JP s reputation for problems with the pots,I'd say it was a little more than just dirt.... and worse case scenario need replacing

That's the problem of buying synths in secondhand...
I have to open it because it has dust everywhere, I'll see what I can do for pots at the same time so

My advice - better buy MS2000 instead of Microkorg... Far way better synth for same money. Many sounds are compatible anyway

I doodled around with the MS2K a while ago, and I hate it. I don't like it's sound at all.

2X... I think you'll get that NL sound whatever it's the first, 2 or 2X. Some says the 2X has a cleaner sound due to the "better" 24bit DACs. I have to check some JMJ patches for the NL soon and see how close it can come to that Oxygene 11 sequence, as some parametres has been changed.

To return to the JP8000, I guess the feedback oscillator is responsible for that famous Magnetic Fields 1 intro?
