Some UK members may have seen this on the news tonight . But one of the new ways to beat bootlegging has come into force here in the UK only recently. One method that is currently being used by www.concertlive.co.uk is too record and mix the music during the concert, then with a large fleet of CD burners, produce the 'live' cd, package it and have it for sale at the venue some 10 minutes after the show, priced at £15.00, and distributed correctly.

Obviously it will not beat the bootleggers as such, but will help fans get what the want, basically what they have just heard.

I actually think this is a wonderful idea that I hope will catch on. More info, check out the website link above.

Cool idea, but the price

They can delete "official recordings" and sell them for 5€, I can understand that, it is the price of the CD and the time they took to burn the CD and all, but not £15

DM recorded and sold records from almost all their concerts from the latest tour

Actually, I don't mind the price, not if your getting a near as recorded version of the live show without the months of chopping, mixing and so forth that goes on in the studio to finalise a live recording.

But still a bootleg, and my principles won't let me spend money in any bootlegs

The Levellers did this on their last tour. It can't be a bootleg because the band have sanctioned it themselves and will be using the sound recording for their own DVD release...

Pete Townshend has just announced that The Who will be doing the same thing at all of their gigs to beat the bootleggers. But all the proceeds are going to charity... How can a fan resist? It's a really nice idea.

JMJ should have done this for a Cities in Concert gig. Imagine most of the audience for La Defense buying an official bootleg streight afterwards? He would have made millions for charity!

Thats right, the CDs are not bootlegs because the band/artist works with 'concertlive' directly and proceeds of the sales goes to the artist.

I told my dad about this and he said the Keane concert he went to last night were doing this, at exactly £15. Interesting.

Way overpriced IMO,if you've just attended the concert you would have paid on average of todays ticket prices about £25,so personally you should get a "Concert exclusive price" of about £7 for a the CD...to spend that money on a ticket and then have to pay the full Price of a standard album is extortion..

Its like sitting in a Cinema and paying to watch the Film and then buying a DVD of it on your way out!!!!

I think that its the Artists taking advantage of Fans..and not beating the Bootleggers,because IMO Bootleggers aside a real fan will still buy the Genuine artifacts even if they have bootlegs,so really there creaming the Real fans by cashing in on something that never really existed from Illegal file sharing,anyone willing to pay to attend a show is gonna buy a CD of the artist

I have plenty of Jarre bootlegs I'd still go and buy them all if they were for genuine release and I'm sure most of you would also.So Jarre will still have not of lost out from Illegal Bootleggers..

Although you have the right to not buy also,but most fans will buy it on loyaty or some sort of false pretence that they have to,its like the Merchandise they sell at crazy prices like 25 quid for a £2 cotton T shirt with the Bands name printed on!!!!Its a joke and they should be regulated..

Any real fan would buy a Live CD irrespective of it being sold months after the Concerts or multiple bootlegs have been passed around,so IMO i don't see how distributing genuine copies minutes after the show would stop illegal distribution,whats to stop someone buying the CD after the Concert and then copying it onto the net for others who didn't attend to rip????By only selling copies to the attending Audience your already opening the illegal distribution to a wider audience as maybe 30 thousands fans attended,so in effect only 30 thousands copies sold to that audience,yet one person who bought it puts it on the net and 80 thousand people who didnt attend the concert could have access to it for free,so the Artists have stilll Lost out to bootlegging!!!


The way DM did it was to offer it as Digital Download on the net,which then isn't only allowing the Attending audience the chance to buy it ,but anyone who did or didn't attend it..so that stops filesharing across the net in a way

If you only sell copies at the venue,sooner or later a File share will happen on the net of it

It's definetly a way to curb it,but you'll still never fully beat the system..

That's actually a lot better, I like that system more.

But I still like the CD for £15 system.

I like the CD more indeed, too. And I don't mind paying big bucks either
