iTune 7+Gapless Playlist=perfect JARRE music

With the release of iTunes 7 you can now make your playlists gapless (i.e. eliminate the breaks between tracks) WITHOUT having to merge the playlist into ONE BIG TRACK as before.

NOTE: This is also different than the "Crossfade" playback function in iTunes preferences that did a 'fake' fade between tracks.

This seems perfect for some Jarre albums where the songs lead from one track into the other (before there would be an annoying cut between a continous track on my ipod).

I tried this Gapless function on AERO and it sounded just like the original CD.

You just need to highlight the tracks in a playlist, "get info" & choose "Gapless" at the bottom.

I should add at this point that Gapless Playback works within iTunes and only on the 5G iPod Video and the new 2nd Gen iPod Nano - as yet all other iPods are NOT supported. The Apple forums have been inundated with pissed off Apple users asking why Apple saw fit only to introduce Gapless Playback on new iPods only. WATCH THIS SPACE

Another pissed off 4G iPod user. :evil:

I think it doesnt matter if you use Gapless playback for all Jarre CDs - just means you dont have the standard 2 second gap between tracks.

The new iTunes interface looks great though.

I did not know that! Thanks Sharpblue!

I also have a 4G iPod. I listened to it on iTunes and assumed it would be the same on my iPod. I was just loading up the songs as I wrote this. Now the 4G iPod doesn't seem to be showing up in iTunes at all. Strange???

Try the gapless function. You will notice a difference! Some tracks were never meant to have that 2 second gap. Especially some of the Live CDs, like Live @ Docklands and Houston where the sound seems to "hiccup".

Okay, I'm on Mac OS X so I'm looking at the forums now... looks like iTunes 7 is really kerfunked...until they get an update...

Lots of people seem to have problems - but I don't know if it's me but it all went seemlessly. Works fine.

Just restarted iTunes and it works fine. The new iPod interface with iTunes is really a beautiful thing.

yes a restart and / or ipod reset usually sorts things out.
Another very usefull program to use regularly to keep OSX in tip-top condition is a program called ONYX http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html

It really keeps the system clean.

It received 4 1/2 mice in MacWorld.

Same as that GeeJee, but I am reading that due to the different nature of the hardware in the older iPods it may not work. Different drive type is probably not too blame, more likely insufficient buffer memory or disc access speed to make it feasible.

One can only hope. If there is a technical reason why gapless playback is not possible on older iPods I wish Apple would say so.

That would sound like bull to me. I mean - a simple firmware update would do the trick, specially cause my iPod model is not that old at all... :roll:

I hope Apple is not microsoftifying here... :roll: :D
