That would have been the Original Asking price....Not what there worth today nico...

You could probably pick up a Poly 800 for around 150 euros or less

Got to be honest,Although i love more or less every Korg synth,this is one the few I thought was a Pile of crap....I seen one in a secondhand shop last year for around £70,normally at that price i would have bought it,being Korg,but never did,knowing i would probably never actually use it within my setup for anything useful apart from gathering dust.......


going to my local music shop today,to check out the SH201.. :wink:

Last year I was thinking of buying one because it isn't a very expensive synth, but the sound was too digital and thin, and it hasn't much editing options. So, I didn't buy one.

The only strength of the Poly800 are Basslines and -maybe- some Strings. It simply sounds (without effects) too "rectangular", if i may say so. It would be -sure- have nowadays a "cult status", if it couldn´t use the cheapo housing and provides different (more) waveforms like rectangle(PWM)/triangle/Saw/Sine for each oscillator. It´s like CASIOs CZ-Series. With a -bit- programming (and without using the bulit-in noisy chorus) they´re really capable to produce some fine sounds, but the programming procedure is simply too much work.

But in one case they strike today's devices without problems: They are very reliable built. I have nothing against a JP-8000, i own myself one, looks outside great, but it is inside "el cheapo" like hell, particularly the potentiometers. I have to change now on mine -everyone- of them, because they start to send to the ADC unreasonable values, because they lose slowly the contact. I´ll change half of them, but if the problem persists, i´ll sale the JP in parts.

If your Poly has one, MK1 normally doesn´t have a battery (but you can solder one inside)....seems to be a general problem of KORG-Syths, which were built in the 80s. Polysix, Poly61, Poly800, some DW/EX...they seem to have all this battery leakage problem....
