One of the things I love in JMJs music (imho) is that there's always some sense of melancholy in the music. This excerpt absolutely has that too.

Remember this was recorded (quite well) via a smartphone, so will sound different on the album. I think 'Oxygene 3' will be a modern twist to the original, so this version will be quite close if not identical to the album version.

I agree with the melancholy, but in a bitter sweet way for me.
It reminds me of the Oxygene 7-13 tour/album (the sweeping synths are similar in Oxygene 13). I was standing at the front and feeling melancholy and not wanting it to be over (after Oxygene 13).
Oxygene 17 is mixed so deliciously with the upbeat sections to lift it again, totally entwined. I've always loved his use of layers.

We mostly all wanted a solo album from JMJ and it seems he is to deliver what we wanted. A very very nice surprise and even nicer surprise to end the year in Jarrestyle.

I agree with you about the lead melody. I thinks it's quite bad indeed. It sounds like fans trying to come up with a Jarre like melody, but fails completely, because, well because there are fans, and not Jarre and the likes. Could be something from a tribute album to Jarre. And I'm speaking about the lead melody here. The rest is indeed... pleasant It's gonna be interesting to hear the rest of Oxygene 3
Aaaaaand, I'm really looking forward seeing him here in Copenhagen later this month!

Although I can't wait to hear new Jarre solo material, Oxygene 3, I will refrain from listening to the concert recordings that will never sound the way it is intended and are out of their musical context. I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing the concert in Dusseldorf!
And for those who already criticize the melody, which I haven't heard, please note that the original Oxygene album had only 6 tracks, 3 of which are more or less 'traditionally' 'popsong' structured songs with chorus and verses and melodies (2, 4 and 6), whereas 1 is certainly melodic but structured differently (more classical). Now, the new Oxygene album will feautre 7 tracks, that's one more, so there will be plenty of room for melodies built around traditional popsong structures as well as more sequencer tracks and melodic tracks in more classical song structure. I have no doubt we'll be very positively surprised when we first put it in our stereo systems.

Interesting thoughts on the track thus far... I'm going to avoid listening to it until the album itself is released (and considering you apparently can't preorder it yet, I doubt it's gonna have a December 2016 release).
Whether the lead sounds indeed like a fan had made it is irrelevant to me, as long as it sounds good (and won't bother me). Waiting to find out about that. ;]

Might just be me, but €150 for three CDs and three Vinyls seems a bit expensive. I think expected more something along the lines of €100. But whatever. I'm getting it anyway!

Better 150 € than the 270 € price tag some premature product page had at one point.
I'll hold out 'til next Friday to see what kind of prices the other places will have.
That's the real shame with Brexit, btw. I can order stuff just fine from Amazon.de and Amazon.fr, but if I faced some actual issues I'd like to get addressed and fixed, I probably wouldn't get that far trying to deal with Amazon .de and .fr (especially .fr) in English
