Just bought the Essentials & Rarities - I know it's a bit late :)

Don't really like the new versions on essentials!
Magnetic 2 is completely ruined - WAY too much midtone, why??
Oxygene 2 is not full lenght!!
Equinoxe 4 is weird, like the treble is adjusted when the verse starts - dosn't sound good.
Equinoxe 5 sounds ok, but the details are gone.
Rendesz 4 is ok, but again the details are drowned
And one thing strikes me, if he used the original tapes, why didn't he cut of the endings of the previous songs fading in? And the same thing in the end?

The rarities ...well, I must admit, I think it sounds terrible, too 60's for me :(
Funny though, that the Erosmachine loop is used in Chronologie 2 :)

Yeah the weird Clock sound(anyone that knows what this sound actually is..?) has indeed been reused in Chronologie 2,
I noticed this when I heard Erosmachine a couple of times, but couldn't really put my finger on where I heard it untill I relistened Chronologie...
Also the Rarities (Except: Happiness, La Cage and Erosmachine) were all made in the 70's :punch:

It still sounds like crap! :roll:
No melody, just simple sounds putted really bad together. I am sure it was quite hard to do via tape cuts and old Revox's, but I still don't like it.

'Happiness' is one of the best examples of Musique Concrete / atonal style I've ever heard. The other tracks are a range of styles that JMJ employed to provide soundtracks, one-off singles etc. This all culminated into Oxygene and the rest is history. To each their own, but calling JMJ's experimental music 'crap' because one doesn't like the genre is a bit harsh IMO.

I can't find ANYTHING in those tracks, saying "Jarre", and anything sounding like the start of Oxygene and forward.
If any other than Jarre made this album, you guys would call it rubbish.

Assuming you're not clairvoyant, that remark is uncalled for. You have no idea what style or music other than JMJ that I or others like, except what is made public here. Deciding you don't like something means everyone shouldn't like it is arrogant to say the least.

Sure, we are all like you. Oh wait, we are not, sorry. I think Hypnose is a brilliant track. I love Happiness is a Sad Song for it's Musique Concrete style, it reminds me of the Beatles' Revolution #9 from the White Album, released around the same time.

I completely agree, I feel like I have to justify my musical preference here.
