The original Nord Lead doesn't seem to come up for sale very often in the UK,I only stumbled upon this one by word of mouth,through a friend of a friend,Ebay seems to have a few now and then,but there never seems to be many MK1 up very often

The Nord 2 seems the more popular one that come up,But I suppose its because they sold more MK2 than the original lead.

Check out this topic on VSE for other opinions on the differences between the 2x and the 3. It can get confusing though as people have reversed opinions or simply just have opposite opinions about the synths.

It's exactly what I've read so far in reviews. The 3 has a different engine, but can replicate 1/2/2x sounds just as easily and even has a lot more options, an excellent looking interface...

If I had the money, I would know what to do with it

I thought it was the time to show some of my Nord Lead 2x presets. The sounds are pretty simple and mostly 80's sounding. Everything is without any effects, so you got the raw tone. Some of them would sound better with effects though.
Everything was played by hand so that excuses the unprecise playing, badnotes and bad improvisation

The sounds:
1. Moroder bass - The bass reminded of The Chase bass, but it was just supposed to be a simple bass sound
2. Visage pad - I started experimenting with the Fade To Grey pad and got inspired by other similar sounds.
3. Chronologie 6 bass - not my own but just to share a nice recreation
4. trance strings - Just a simple experiment with trance
5. bass - The melody is from Je Me Souviens but it was not meant to be a recreation, just a basstest.
6. saw/square bass - Another basstest
7. Magic Fly - A little weaksounding but one of the classics... Space - Magic Fly
8. C'est La Vie - I took an original preset and reworked it to make it sound more like C'est La Vie. I have difficulties making it sound dry enough.
9. Oxygene 11 sequence - Another patch that is not my own, just to show it.

11. Depeche Mode - a simple attempt of recreating the lead from a Depeche Mode classic.
12. Saw Bass - Just a simple dirty bass. Somehow I think the recording spoiled the sound a bit, my bad.
13. EFX Laser - Attempt of recreating the lasereffect used in Oxygene 2. Especially this would sound much better with effects.
14. Sync lead - Another simple but classic sound
15. Kitaro - as simple as it gets, mind the lack of personality in the playing compared to the real deal
16. Simian Mobile Disco - A typical sound I had to attempt recreating.
17. New Song - A lead from Howard Jones' track 'New Song'.
18. Other Worlds Robots - It reminded me of a coverversion Alden Tyrell did. It's basically a unisonbass.
19. Oxygene 2 sequence - ...
20. White noise - Can it get more simple?
21. RMI - Not really a recreation, I just reworked it from the New Song preset.
22. Oxygene 4 hornlead - ...
23. Pad - A rework from an original preset
24. Polysaw - 3 varitions of a simple polysaw (Tyrone Brunson - The Smurf, Howard Jones - Equality & Journey - Separate Ways)
25. Eurythmics polysaw - A biggersounding polysaw of the first. It reminded me of a stringsound Eurythmics used live
26. Polysaw 2 - Originally an attempt to recreate the sound from Van Halen's 'I'll Wait', so far another 80's polysound.
27. Spleen United strings - Inspired by some liveimprovisation strings used by Spleen United.
28. Wormlead - just to show how nice wormleads it can make, it's screaming
29. Parlez-Vous Francais metal sequence - An original sound used in that track.
30. Parlez-Vous Francais bRass - Another original sound.

Hey great, I like it.

Hmm I just found the bass from Parlez-Vous Francais on my Nord. So far three mainsounds from that track is from the Nordlead 2. Not really surprising as TK had also chosen to have two Nordlead 2 on stage during Electronic Night in Paris. Besides that Christopger Papendieck also played a Nordlead 2, however I think that was integrated in JMJ's performances anyway.

Some nice Sounds there Jakob...

Shows the capabilities of the Nords very well..And one of the great things about the Nords is that its not always about the Glossy FX,the sounds can be really great without Modulation in some cases,on a lot of modern synths,the FX make it sound like something its not,turn them off and your left with a pretty shite sound,something the Nords do well without.

I especially liked the Magic Fly sound,and the Oxygene 2 VCS FX,I have yet to try to replicate this sound on my MK1 and liked the DM Just can't get enough patch and the howard jones riff

Indeed and thanks for taking time to listen to it. And for some reason I always get back to the Nord compared to the MK and SH201. Maybe it's partly that I feel more comfortable with the Nord, but for these kind of sounds it just do more or less what I want and it sounds good almost every time

Well its a no fuss synth,you take a Patch and tweak it till you find something you like,everything is accessible on the Front Panel,and its so easy to get the results you want,Thats one of the reasons I bought the Original Nord lead when they were first made,but just didn't take to the Sound as the VA era was still fairly new after all these years of romplers,so ditched it when the more softer Sounds of the JPs came along thats why I think the MK2 was more accepted because people had time to take in the Nord Lead sound after all these years of glossy PCM data.

12 years on and many VA later I'm more conversant with Programming Analog interfaces rather than Romplers and I find I like the Nord a lot,I'm more at ease with the sound of the Nords and for the Reason I mentioned above like the immediacy of it,along with the ease of programability.
