In Layman's terms: does that mean that they are quieter?
No, unfortunately in many cases the high resolution masters are just as loud and as devoid of dynamics as the 16/44.1 CD files. :(

They don't cite when they have had a separate mastering made for them, which means you sort of have to resort to the Dynamic Range database to find out - so far only the CD for Oxygene3 has been uploaded - http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list? ... rre&album=

I had also uploaded the information of the two new remasters. But with the - between Jean and Michel. If I do it I'll do it good! :P

Just checked the booklet for the 3CD box. It's said they're 2016 remasters by Dave Dadwater. I don't believe that for Oxygene 1-6

I might be possible that it's a new remaster, but it most certainly wasn't transferred from the original magnetic tape. Same transfer from 2011 with all the obvious flaws that came from that one

So there's little (little-to-none) point to purchasing them then. 24-bit will not make much difference if the dynamics were compressed, unless you account for the placebo effect.

It's quite possible that it is a new one. The 2011 version from "Essentials and Rarities" while having the same dropout has definitely more bass compared to the new one. Both 2011 and 2016 have an audible high freq hiss (the 2007 mix does not have it though!).

To me it sounds like the 2007 "new master recording" is a totally different thing.

Because it is - I merely mentioned it because as it turns out you can do a far better job making the 1976 Oxygene recording sound "modern", with boosted basses and trebles, yet without introducing an audible hiss which is present on the 2011, 2014 and 2016 "remasters".

If record labels do remasters and change the mixing and EQ in sound, it is not the original anymore. I prefer the original first pressing, as intended.

The number one unique feature in the 2007 master is that the bubbling sound effect at the end of Oxygene 4 (which continues on to O5, as we know) starts far later than in all other versions.

Other than that, MFSL all the way. ;)

(Number two would be the egregious presence of white noise in O1's effects which are not present in (all?) other versions, but that's just stupid whereas the first one is relatively cool.)

Not to mention the L/R panning in part 2 as if they used the 5.1 surround mix and simply shut off the center and surround channels to create the stereo sound on the CD.
The missing birds effect at the end of part 3 and the overall over pumped sound at 60≈125Hz.
Originals are always the best but sometimes they're pretty hard to catch. Like e.g. the Oxygene 7-13 vinyl.

Interesting stuff, guess I've never really paid much attention to that 2007 re-edit. Guess I have to check it out.

Got my box from the mail. I don't think the records are off-centered (judging by just looking at them, but I haven't whipped up a ruler or anything), but there are two white dots on side B (no one has spilled any black vinyl color goo on them either)... I wonder if they're gonna mess (too much) with the audio or get the needle stuck in there or any of that stuff.

In any case, I'll be digitizing the Oxygene 7-13 and 14-20 records with my PRO-JECT DEBUT CARBON DC OM-10 PHONO USB and will do some comparisons over key snippets of the former (at least).

As I own the Oxygene 1-6 MFSL edition, I'm not even going to switch the 40th anniversary box's Oxygene 1-6 record to a rice paper sleeve so I can use my extra ones for something better. ;)

Let us know how that goes, when are you planning to do that?

My box set was refunded today instead of exchanged and it pains me to say this but I'm having second thoughts about ordering it again.
