(I don't think I'd achieve this learning with a DX7... it doesn't "comunicate" naturally for a child to learn by trial and error).
Today's consoles (PS3 my fav) are the equivalente of the mono/poly aproach, they "react" to natural movements and provide a child a great start-up for dealing with technology (internet, conectivity, multimedia, and so on).
A child maybe wouldn't have that hangup with a DX7 like your own way of thinking about it as an Adult, because you Know its awkward to program without a decent menu system or Knobs etc, sure it doesn't have that Immediacy to its interface like a Knob laiden panel, but a Childs way of thinking isn't that developed, even in a well educated Child
most of the resounding doubt about things in Adolescence is down to knowing the limits, and fear of them, most of which aren't learnt by trial and error but mererly Our way of not exploring things naively enough,we think more about the consequences or ommissions than the fun aspect, because we think outside the Bubble
Children don't have inhibitions or the mindset for reservations or reasoning,or so they don't think about what something can't do,they explore with trial and error but focus less on the error, and hence learn more easily without judgement..
Most Adults who are inhibited because of something that happened in their childhood, yet at the time they didn't focus on why they were reluctant to so something that woud later cause them anxiety in life its only when you realise your actions that you begin to shoulder the doubts
Having a young son gives you that reminder, and its a great therapy to your own outlook on life, its remarkable what they do without fear or doubt, you learn to see the world in a whole new light when you have children of your own,
Thats how everyone should be with Technology..Fearless..
