Dorian is interesting. It's contains La Cage though, so that might be a bit double on the rarities album...

We can already announce that 2011 will see a new Jean Michel Jarre album.

This album is called “Memories & Rarities”, a double CD album which includes hits, inedits and pre-Oxygene material.

The launch of the album is due to be held on the three first months of 2011.
Hope the album is going to be rather a Rarites...than memories of RV2, Chronologie 6 and other so-called too-much-played mix of tracks.

If this is supposed to be a 2 disc set, I personally think that disc one will be more inkeeping of Jarre's personal "Best Of" selection, imagine another "Images" style album. And disc two again inkeeping with disc one of more obscure recordings, but nothing "too" over-your-head material. Much of his rarities material is more for the die-hard and loyal fans and nothing I would term "main stream" sales.

Who ever he has signed up with to release this album needs to get people to buy it and not scare them away which I feel anyone "new" to Jarre could be with much of his more decerning rarities. Its all about sales, not what we as fans expect to hear.
Jarre concerts attended - Destination Docklands 1988 - Paris La Defense 1990 - Europe In Concert 1993 (Manchester & London) - Oxygene Tour 1997 (Birmingham)

Agreed, but surely it should have been released before christmas to maximise sales.

Here's my personal take on it - Memories = tracks taken from various mega concerts. Rarities = various remixes taken from the 70's onwards. I don't expect to hear La Cage or Deserted Palaces as it's just not commercial enough.

I could accept the M&R part of your thought!! Hope my fav Oxy5/Variation 3 live will be released on this album.

But I could imagine Deserted Palace, or at least some of its tracks, on this album!

If this is - as rumoured in some quarters - an online only release, it could be aimed squarely at the fans.
The days of money making CD sales for all but S**t Factor wannabes is over. Record companies are an endangered species IMO, so their commercial mindset may not be a factor here.

Online release rumored? It's only speculation at this moment.

And why should Variation 3 be released again? It's already on the Oxygene 30 anniversary set.

I quite agree, but some would like it to be released on CD.
