When I arrived at my theater to see the show I already had tickets for, there were thousands of people outside waiting. It turned out, that was because someone had been so upset at the crappiness of the movie that they pulled the fire alarm and trashed a vending counter on the way out. Yikes.
There wasn't anything close to a riot really, that was a misleading headline, but towards the end when a ghost blows open the door during Indy's retarded wedding (why did he get married? All that romance justified it I guess?) and Shia goes to put on Indy's hat, our theater started booing. I thought that was justified, too.
Also, Indy was fired from his teaching job because of his supposed communist ties, why was he made the dean at the end? He accomplished next to nothing in the middle of the jungle and suddenley he's a hero?
Honestly I don't see how anyone enjoyed this movie. When Harrison Ford actually said Han Solo's line "I've got a bad feeling about this" it became evident that the whole production was a giant CGI George Lucas acid flash.

These are some of the reasons I thought the movie sucked.
**SPOILERS**
The script was bad.
The lighting was terrible.
The editing was sloppy. Many cuts, including wide cuts, close ups, etc. - did not match. There was a real lack of continuity.
The CG was overused and looked extremely flat and fake.
The prairie dogs were stupid and unnecessary.
The opening with the "car chase" was pointless and obviously filler and thrown in to really force us to know that we're now in 1957.
I find it hard to believe that only four guards are on duty at Area 51.
How did the Russians get into America at this time? How did they get their guns and gear?
Cate was terrible as the villain.
How did Mutt know to find Indy on the train? Why was Mutt wearing that stupid hat - he seemed to care about his hair a lot and I doubt he would have worn a hat - plus where did the hat go - you never see it again.
The acting felt forced and unbelievable.
The refrigerator being rocketed miles through the air after an atomic explosion and Indy walking away from it unscathed was just ridiculous. You can't even open a refrigerator from the inside. That bomb would have killed him.
The entire mini-plot with the FBI was pointless and dragged on and added nothing to the story.
The photos on Indy's desk of Denholm and Connery was stupid. Let's just rub it into the audience faces that these people are gone.
