JMJ isn't a stranger to the odd expletive now and then. He used to f-word to describe Covid after Christophe died for example. No different to many of us - myself included :-)

People interested in an Amazônia photobook:

Pricetag is quite high though. But the book is massive too, I saw it last year at the photo exposition

The exhibition-event Amazônia by Franco-Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado is coming to Belgium!

Designed by Lélia Wanick Salgado and produced and presented by Tempora, the exhibition presents more than 200 large-format photographs that reveal the incredible richness of the Amazon rainforest and the people who live there in symbiosis. Amazônia is held at Tour & Taxis in Brussels from April 4 to November 9, 2025 and offers an immersion in a world that is both rich and fragile, accompanied by a sound work specially created by Jean-Michel Jarre.

In the Instagram stream last year, JMJ revealed that he wanted Amazonia to be one single track, but the label told him that he has to seperate it onto several tracks, because the Spotify algorhytm prefers it that way...

So wanted listen to Amazonia again with that in my mind and it made me realise again that one of the most amazing things about Jean-Michel Jarre is that his concept albums aren't just capturing the sound of a certain theme, but also the experince itself too.

Because Amazonia doesn't just use the sounds of nature, animals, water, tribal people, etc., it also has a structure based on similar, but always slightly different elements changing, evolving in a slightly chaotic way and if you really think about it, being lost in a rainforest is exactly like that, all the trees, other plants, clouds look mostly the similar, but not totally same. I know some people criticised Amazonia for not having too much structure, but those people don't seem to get that Jarre intentionally did it this way, it was part of the concept. This is why he wanted it to be one track,

His more soundscape-ish albums are always like that: Waiting for Cousteau perfectly captures a ride to the ocean from the beach to the endless, deepest botton, Sessions 2000 captures the playful chaos of a night in a smokey jazz club and Oxymore is perfect for that dark noir virtual city as well. This is why I do like this side of him too.

To get the full experince for all his music: don't listen to JMJ songs. Listen to JMJ albums. Every track is much better with the context of the album. His music makes more sense if you think about his ideas.

R.I.P. Sebastião Salgado.

I only know his works that JMJ used as inspiration for Amazonia. But even as music fans and Jarre fans, we should all be grateful for being such an amazing artist that his works inspired an entire fantastic Jean-Michel Jarre album. We could not get lost in the atmosphere of that wonderful ambient soundscape Amazonia without his work in photography.

I will definitely watch some of his works and play Amazonia tonight...
