All I can say was WOW! It's a very moving and beautifully made film. And the lead girl is a cutie too!!

I think it was OK. Is it just me or haven't mr. Smith been growing just a bit as an actor?AnDrOiD wrote:![]()

Saw Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Premiere last night at 12 midnight here in LA...All I can say is he looks ooooold!
Look, my dad is a retired college professor. Both Indy and my dad dress similar, believe it or not . Those pleated slacks and safari shirt just don't fit anymore, for both of them! Maybe 10 years ago when you had muscle, but now you're an old man, pops...to quote Mutt Williams.
Seriously, if they had never made Raiders then this would be a worthy sequel, but as it is, it pales in comparison to the rest. It's like a band that waits 20 years for a reunion. You think, gosh, wish they did it after 10 years instead of 20. Believe me, I am a true fan. I want to like it more. I'm really trying, I really am. And maybe I will when I see it again in IMAX.
But right now it sorta sucks but it was still sorta fun. I just think The Last Crusaude had more mystery, and a lot less useless banter (as opposed to a Coen Brothers film where every piece of dialogue is brilliant!)
****************************SPOILER ALERT*********************************
Actually, I think all the dumb parts are really Lucas' doing. The swinging on the vine like Tarzan by Shia Lebouf it taken directly from Return Of The Jedi where Chewbacca does the same thing. The gophers were just stupid. And when Indy gets in that refrigerator on the atomic test site, it should have decimated the town but left him in the fridge right where he was. That would have been cool. Instead the fridge (and Indy in it) get thrown miles into the sky and tumble to earth as Indy rolls out in the end.
And of course they aren't just Aliens from another world...they ahve to be "Inter-Dimensional Beings". One, Spielberg made the aliens completely unfriendly in the end--they are evil,.
Two, Indy actually helps the Russians. If it were the Nazis he would have spit in their faces! Three the openent is not tough at all. The tall Russian dude looks too goofy. And Cate Blanchett looks like Natasha from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Who she has sword, scary! Also the Nazis felt like a great big presence descending on the scene. Here, there are like 12 Russkies total-bahaha!
This movie makes Temple Of Doom look lioke a masterpiece and more believable in comparison. Ooooh... Chilled monket brains... S-s-snake surprise! Shiva linga... Bring back the stone Dr. Jones. But I digress...
Actually the relationship between Indy and Short Round was much more charming than Indy and Mutt Williams. Mutt, simply ridiculous. If they think they are going to revive the franchise with him. Think again!
In this film, the best relationship was between Harrison Ford and Ray Winstone (one of the best actors out there--go Beowulf!) Actually I though Spielberg was using the Robert Zemeckis left-overs with Winstone and John Hurt (from Contact, remember). What the "hell" was John Hurt doing in this movie...I am crazy, I am stoned...another unnecessary character like Karen Allen. if you are gonna bring somebody back bring back SEAN CONNERY!!!! I know he didn't want to do it, do you blame him.... Still, Spileberg offer him a ride on the shuttle, or something, hahaha... Would have really added that much needed charm.
The fact that Indy and Mation fall back in love so fast is soooo unbelievable. If he is such a great archeologist and really longed for her , he should have found her. "Wait, you're mother's name is MArion?" Indy, Mutt is your son... groan!!!!! Some of the worst dialogue. or "You should finish school." And Shia calling Indy Old man just got tired.
In the original Marion was one tough "broad" and here she is reduced to playing mom, ducking from Cate Blanchette. The Marion I know from Raiders would have "decked" Cate's character right in the jaw! And Karen Allen, what's with the mom pants! She did not look good--but better than Harrison:P
Don't get me wrong. There are some great moments, great stunts and I have to admit Shia LeBouf was really good. The problem is that Spielberg, like his last few films doesn't know how to end his movies.--In a wedding chapel... UGH!!!!
So it's still worth seeing on the big screen!![]()
But I'll tell you this, Lucas' creativity is gone! First teh crapppy Star Wars sequels "You look like an Angel" & Jar Jar Binks! Even The Phantom Menace sounds like The Crystal Skull.
Also, Spielberg said he was gonna shoot them like the old Indy, almost no CGi but in the end it is almost all CGHi. The models in the other films gave it that charm.
Also, Janusz Kaminski said he studies Salcomb's cinematography--RIP (Brilliant Britsh DP or DOP as they say). But he didn't as the cinemtography was waaay to soft and blowout. Janusz this is not Artificial Intelligence! I wish Spielberg would getr rid of that guy and finally try a new DP. All his films look the same. Over processed, over-saturated and in teh end more dated than the poriginal films (in this case).
And before you think I'm not a Spielberg or Lucas fan, I'll have you know I own every one of their films. Even Amblin, Spielberg's short film...shhhh don't tell anybody, and teh making of Coppola's The Rain People documentary by Lucas + all his shorts. Maybe I set them up to a higher standard. Lord knows they can afford it. And yes you can buy good ideas.... Just have to taste enough to be able to choose what is good and what isn't I guess.
Look, it's not a bad film. Just not great either. I'm sure it will make a TON of money, sigh...
