I prefer listening to unreleased stuff, even if quality sucks :peacemaan:

Is it likely anyway that hi-quality source material exists for those 80s remixes anyway?

I mean - it would be awesome to have some of those tracks Jones mentioned would be on the CD, but if that would mean a straight vinyl -> CD release w/ some cleaning... gracias but no gracias... :P

I'd say so. The masters for any release a major artist were routinely stored by the big record companies.
Jarre and his recordings, masters, downmixes and related remixes are no different, I'd presume.

That information has been given by our friend an FJARRE.COM forum member SERGIO KEYS, not me. As far as I know people at DREYFUS have been working in this release since the first day till today, when I have been noticed by them about the new album tittle ("Essentials & rarities").
I see, thanks ; no problem btw.
E&R will have tracks that had been released 15 times now (the hits, we all know them).
It depends on Rarites if I will buy this compliation.

I was hoping Memories (already Essentials) will include concert versions...I might skip this release now. JM should now push the new music out I think and not doing complilations after compilations. This is the business of Tangerine Dream. For example...

Oh no, that will really depend on the tracklist of E&R. As for the new studio album, sure, I will get that anyway.

I'm not sure we'll have new material album this year. It's my personal opinion.

To avoid disappointment I'm not reading any more about the new releases until we have some definate news. I really do fear that it's going to be a major let down for certain people.

Other than the record company cashing in "again" on Jarre's tour with the upteinth time release of "Essential", I really see no other point in there being a "best of" album as part of this set. Surely those who attend Jarre concerts know part of his back catalogue of hits to not warrant another one of these albums.

Come on Dreyfus Music. . . . . Think "outside" the box for a change.

A double album as a minimum of rarities would be a better seller for you than a mash up of hits and rarities. It would be MORE welcomed in the Jarre community than the present statements of a one disc of hits, one disc of rarities. They cannot tell us they only have enough material for one disc, surely not. I understand that over time, any old recordings onto tape can degrade. But there has to be more material out there that could be released as a boxset than a single disc of rarities.

Even a Rarities Volume One would be a good starting point. . . . If we had a sign that there would be more to follow at a later date.

I have always thought of JMJ re-recording or re-using his unreleased material as a valid idea. It worked well with Rendez-Vous, a couple of his older and pretty much unknown songs recycled into RV2, RV3, RV4 and the last bit of RV5 (that last one from MFS, as we all know!).
I'd quite like to see that, probably more so than a rerelease of Deserted Palaces, which now would sound rather tinny and dated and notably inferior to Oxygene that was only a couple of years later. The Les Granges Brulees rerelease was great for collectors, but not the kind of thing you'd play all the time avidly!!!

If it is an AP and Dreyfus release, I am quite curious was FD a part of this or has the new FD management arranged this?

There is an opinion shared by some - first printed by COTM - that there is a version of RV4 buried deep in the mix of Music for Supermarkets - in the section just before Blah-Blah Cafe.
