Jean-Michel Jarre: I was thought crazy for making alien music
Electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre told "Ringvaate" in an interview that his music was considered alien music and that he himself was crazy when he released the album "Oxygène". Yet it became the best-selling album in France, 3.5 million people listened to his concert in Moscow, and he was the first Western artist to perform in communist China.
"I had a strange feeling after the fall of the Iron Curtain to discover that my music was not allowed to be played in Moscow, because even though there were no words, it was a symbol of escape and subversion, which is why I am so excited to play in Estonia," said composer and electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre, who will perform at the Unibet Arena in Tallinn on June 17.

Or perhaps we should stop deluding ourselves about JMJ's relevance in today's world. It was already visible on the Electronica tour. I myself bailed on this tour, because I wasn't expecting anything new, although now I'm seriously reconsidering going given those MF1 teasers.

He has relevance though there should be management aswell.

JMJ getting some rest before the summer tour 2025!

We have a global economic crisis, prices are getting higher and higher, I personally know several people who wanted to go, but couldn't pay for the tickets.

Oh, he is not relevant, he just had a record of 75 million people, 1% of Earth population watching his weird VR concert, he was invited to Coachella, he was invited to the Paralympics Closing Ceremony, he was invited to do concerts in the Dead Sea and in Riyadh, he was nominated for a Grammy, Gorillaz invited him to their own album Humanz and 120 000 people went to his concert last year, including people from South America. But he is not revelant anymore....

If there are 2 negative factors that doesn't help him, I think of these:

1. People are generally not exactly too cultured, regardless of the country, they don't really get music that doesn't fit some dumb stereotype, like "screaming loud rocker with tattoos", "gentleman in a suit singing about love", things like that, so Jarre should either be very old school or very modern, because his image and art are way too complex for most humans.

2. Jarre is way too progressive and modern to be a nothing but a piece of nostalgia, where the old generation can remember the times when their back didn't hurt, when the children played outside instead of having smartphones, etc. so they are not going, but the younger people who would enjoy the music just see the name "Jean-Michel Jarre" and they falsely assume that will be a retro show, which is why they don't want to go.

This is why certain artist choose to release their "different" art under a different name, like The Future Sound of London, who released their psycheledic rock albums under the name Amorphous Androgynous. Maybe Jarre should've done that, but he had the balls to not do it, because he wanted to challenge his own fans and himself.

He liteally just revealed a new track that he will play at the concert, but nobody discusses it? He is going play Oxymore, the title track. It's interesting that he is playing this one live and not one of the more upbeat tracks like Zeitgeist or Brutalism. Though it's still possible that he will play one or two of those as well. I'm glad he is playing an Oxymore track live at this tour, just to stick it to the haters of the album.

The main attendance milestone to hit is over 50% of capacity (comparison point viewtopic.php?p=201123#p201123), everything after that is a bonus

Yes absolutely. Inflation is high, thus more and more people think over if they buy an expansive ticket, or invest on a summer holiday (I am thinking of this very tour now) or e.g. renovating the household, etc.....
All this and a weak tour management may equals to poor ticket selling. Not everywhere, not everytime, but AP uses new tour agancy this year and it's "visible". These events should have been announced at the end of the year the latest, having much more time for promotion and such...

Also, Oslo was sold out in no time, so what does that tell you?
