Oh, he is not relevant, he just had a record of 75 million people, 1% of Earth population watching his weird VR concert, he was invited to Coachella, he was invited to the Paralympics Closing Ceremony, he was invited to do concerts in the Dead Sea and in Riyadh, he was nominated for a Grammy, Gorillaz invited him to their own album Humanz and 120 000 people went to his concert last year, including people from South America. But he is not revelant anymore....
If there are 2 negative factors that doesn't help him, I think of these:
1. People are generally not exactly too cultured, regardless of the country, they don't really get music that doesn't fit some dumb stereotype, like "screaming loud rocker with tattoos", "gentleman in a suit singing about love", things like that, so Jarre should either be very old school or very modern, because his image and art are way too complex for most humans.
2. Jarre is way too progressive and modern to be a nothing but a piece of nostalgia, where the old generation can remember the times when their back didn't hurt, when the children played outside instead of having smartphones, etc. so they are not going, but the younger people who would enjoy the music just see the name "Jean-Michel Jarre" and they falsely assume that will be a retro show, which is why they don't want to go.
This is why certain artist choose to release their "different" art under a different name, like The Future Sound of London, who released their psycheledic rock albums under the name Amorphous Androgynous. Maybe Jarre should've done that, but he had the balls to not do it, because he wanted to challenge his own fans and himself.
