As the dates for Jarre’s new tour are approaching, I’ve always enjoyed trying to predict what Jarre will keep from previous tours, what he’ll remove, and what he might add.
This is the setlist Jarre used last year:

Perhaps there could be one or two change in the setlist, but it's just me.
However, ADE will have the new concept!

After almost two decades of absence in Toulouse, Jean-Michel Jarre is preparing to make his grand return to Toulouse. The artist, a major figure in the global electronic scene, will perform on Thursday, July 16 at the Pony Club. An evening that already promises to be one of the highlights of the musical summer.
"Today is a particularly stimulating time to create, compose and share music through a multitude of media," says the artist. A few words that perfectly illustrate his approach, he who has never stopped integrating innovations, from immersive audio to virtual reality, to the metaverse
If it's true that JMJ is working on a new album, he might perform some of the new tracks during the summer tour. However, it’s likely that won't happen and the setlist will be identical to last year's.
I think the only difference will be the Time Machine and the laser harp, just like in Samarkand.

Jean-Michel Jarre has repeatedly supported Poland on the way to democracy, and for the last few decades he has not forgotten about us either. -For almost the entire 20th century. Poland was an example of perseverance and resistance for us.
I've heared a tiny, also still-insignificant rumour saying that tour might continue in October. I mean, more dates in October.
Hmm.
We'll see.

The French musician will perform on July 8 at the Marina Nord, where he will present a show designed with AI that celebrates the 50th anniversary of 'Oxygène': "València still maintains that special link with electronic music."
Jean-Michel Jarre will perform on July 8 in Valencia as part of the FAR cycle, which is held in the Marina Nord. The pioneer of electronic music returns to a city that, he remembers, he already visited a long time ago and of which his unique energy stands out: a great city in which "everything is very close" and that for him works "as a nucleus, an atomic nucleus." The concert also comes at a particularly symbolic moment: the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Oxygène, a founding work that Jarre continues to understand not as an exercise in nostalgia, but as a living artistic experiment, capable of resisting the passage of time and influencing successive generations of creators. In Valencia he will present a show conceived as an immersive experience, with pieces from his catalog completely revised and a staging created with artificial intelligence "in a very poetic and organic way, very Latin."

I've been listening a lot recently to the MP3 rip I made from the ARTE broadcast of the Seville show. My own personal take is that the setlist works really well at the start and finish but has a real drop-off problem in the middle. Such a strong opening, the improvised Oxy 2 opening is a highlight. I could listen to a whole album of those sorts of noodling arounds on a synth from him. The bass on Arpegiateur is terrific and these first 9 tracks just feels like banger after banger, a great mix of old and new:

And then it breaks down into a weird mix of dull, thump-thump dance (Zero Gravity remix and Exit), an odd misplaced snippet (Ind Rev Pt2), a low-fi improv piece (Robots Don't Cry), another thump-thump dance track (Herbalizer) and then another slow, down-tempo track (Oxy 19). This section does not hang together well at all:
It then picks up again, with a strong finish. Epica Live is brilliant, that bassline that kicks in during the second half is amazing. And that hard mash-up of RV4 and Mag Fields 2 - just slammed togther! - makes for a great encore. I love that he took two old classics and just played them one after the other, no pretence of mixing them. Just bang, there you go, this is what I am really good at. When you listen to Epica, Stardust and then RV4 into Mag Fields 2, that feels like the best of JMJ new and old. And makes that middle part of the set list feel saggy and disconnected. Shout out to Brutalism too, which works great live, with perhaps the best visuals of the whole show - that 'laser' that 'cuts' a line through the screen behind JMJ and lights being fired towards the stage, not just from it.
