Overall first impressions, its exceeded my original expectations,I have always thought it was overhyped, but I have always wanted one,ok it has limited polyphony and Multitimbral capabilities, but I'm very impressed by what sounds it can achieve even when you Look how basic its structure is compared to other Analog synths, obviously its the nearest your gonna get to that Legendary Minimoog sound and it does live up to that Image and brings it up to date with todays synths abilities also no fear of the unreliability of the Old Classic and large service bills.
That board is an absolute joy to program. It sounds closer to a Model D than pretty much anything out there and you can't put a price on buying a real hand made Moog plus not having to worry about upkeep or midi retro kits etc. The Voyager is what made me so let down by the Prophet 08 (which I'm slowly warming up to). I expected the P 08 to be to the P 5 as the Voyager is to the Model D. The P 08 isn't close to a P5... but the Voyager delivers and is a modern Model D. It's one of those boards that you keep coming back to because it's so easy to get great sounds out of with ease. I guess Dr. Bob knew what he was doing

Plus if you add a VX-352 or CP-251, you are into Moog modular territory. Great stuff with all sorts of sonic capabilities. Enjoy it Equinoxe, let us hear some of the wonderful sound creations soon!

The Voyager is brilliant,I've only ever owned one vintage Moog, many years ago,but have always wanted a Model D since almost getting into synthesizers but wasn't prepared to own one to have to spend money on service costs,I just think thats a silly investment just to say I own a Minimoog,I resisted the Voyager for a long time because of its cost, but on a more economic level its far more cost effective if you want that Model D sound to spend a little bit more on the Voyager at least your getting the Reliability with the Up to date features and not having to spend dead money keeping it working.
for anyone wanting that Model D sound and interface, the Voyager is the synth to buy,it really does have a Kind of unique Impression of its own, both to program and play,Whilst staying faithful to the true Minimoog spirit and texture more than any soft or Hardware Clone
I'm seriously blown away by what sounds this thing can produce, the Minmoog always had the image of good Leads and Basses and the Voyager follows that plus the ability to do so many other sounds realistically,I think it really excels and some wonderful and wacky SFX,
I'm into that Moog Vibe now and will be checking out the additional Moogerfooger pedals and the Expansion boxes for the Voyager, the only thing Missing fom the Voyager which would make it far more desirable to some people would be a little more Polyphony(Who knows maybe they might do a Memorymoog Clone too in the future

)now that would be on my shopping list..
Today I think the Romplers have become too stale, they all try to immitate acoustic instruments, but never offer anything really convincing except the Impression of a violin or Guitar, the only thing that improves from one machine to another is the Sound Quality and sample bit rates,it still doesn't feel or sound like a real instrument,I've got more and more back into the Analog naive way of working and programming, after owning a large portion of digital synths over the past decade, you realise there is nothing new between them all, except a few more samples and Polyphony, but an analog synth is static and never changes or tries to be anything it can't its texture is always pleasing and not overprocessed, something I like very Much..
It would be superb if the Voyager had Polyphonic ability, and to be able to switch to a Monophonic mode if so wish to stay with the Model D vibe...Kind of like the Arturia Software does...I'm suprised Moog have not tendered some Hardware upgrade board to be able to do this...

But would that be possible at all? I mean doesn't polyphony in analogue synths work as separate OSCs for each note of polyphony? So it would require a whole set of OSCs for each note of polyphony, if you know what I mean. It's quite difficult to explane.

I think that the Moog LP Stage nails the sound of the Model-D better than the Voyager. The Voyager is too soft in character to emulate the Model D. The LP Stage has the raw character that I think is needed for Model D sounds.
Of course the Voyager is your choice if you want to make 3 VCO patches. But many of the old good patches for Model-D used the third VCO as LFO any way. So the Lp Stage can do it.
However. Only a Model-D will sound like a Model-D for real. Both the Voyager and the LP are two very amazing synths and to be fair they should be seen as two individual synths. Not replecments for a Minimoog Model-D IMO.

it must be a case of your own taste and hearing, the Voyager clearly is by far more fuller and aggresive in its sound, and also able to sound soft and mellow too,I've got the two to be able to A/B Comparison and would say anyone could hear the Difference the only thing that makes the Phatty sound large is the fact it has the Overdrive option to be able to push the sound a little more to make it harsh or fuller and personally think it needs it to compete with the Voyager, emulating timbres on each machine shows that the Voyager has far more fuller and larger tones and thats not just because it has the 3rd oscillator, even with 1 or 2 oscillator replications the Voyager has more of that Model D signature sound whereas the Phatty plays less harder. I've never even thought the LP was even a patch on an original Model D,whereby the Voyager is,the LP is more directly related to the Rogue IME
As for not looking at them as replacements for the Model D!well the Voyager is more closer to a Model D than any software or Hardware Clone..and I suspect any Voyager owner has bought the synth partly with a vision to getting a Model D replacement mainly due to lack of numbers and Prices of original Model D
I'm not looking at either of them as Replacements,I have no intention of Having an Original Model D I was just simply speculating that with the original comes service bills and regular maintentance,
Anyone who wants that Original Model D would mainly want it for its Nostalgic status and legendary name more than wanting it simply for the Sound alone, and those who wouldn't settle for anything less than the Minimoog would be willing to pay the Price of service and upkeep, not me thanks, wouldn't say that was settling for second Best or replacing it,That would have been more logical to buy the Creamware ASB or stick with the Arturia Vst and save myself a whole wad of cash.
if you want a synth with that typical MiniMoog sound there are cheaper and More reliable viable options like those Creamware and SE1 imitations, the Phatty and the Voyager...both siblings of the Moog signature, are not 3rd party emulators...
To me thats not a replacement or second best options its a Moog synth in its own right, that just happens to emulate the Model D far more convincingly than anything else out there.
