On my M3 Laptop the ZS works fine at 24/94 with 5 to 7 ms, at 16/48khz, works at 2ms with no sweat.

And yes, you DO need a really really great high-quality cable that fits the 3.5 mm stereo input, if you want to sample from there (and only recomended at 24/96), or a normal optical one (thus meaning a digital input, whereas quality is not up the input anymore).

If you don't intend to take the laptop on frequent trips, the USB option is more sensible, if you do intent to make heavy use and trips with it (plane, abroad, three times a month or so), and making demos to clients or quick live recordings (with great cabling), the ZS is a better choice if you are targetting portability.

No problem for portability, I won't travel a lot with it
I just need something with a low latency to use with my laptop.
My laptop has a Centrino 1,8Ghz, 1Gb of RAM so I don't think there is a problem for performances.

So now, it is nly a problem of bandwidth and latency, M-Audio Quatro USB or Creative Audigy ZS for notebook.
Is there a big difference of latency between them two (not on the caracteristics, but with the use).
I would like to play live with my soundcard on my synth and via midi on my VST at the same time without latency...

7ms doesn't seem to be enormous, dunnow how I had with my M-Audio 24/96...

I just discovered that the little "pops" sounds were caused by my hard disk in SATA, they happen when I access to the disk !

What do you think I can do ? My soundcard is a M-Audio 24/96 in PCI, should I change the IRQ ?

Nico, if you can - only get Firewire stuff. The Firewire protocol doestn't put extra burden on the CPU as USB does.
