I have found another pic (looks like it's from the same photo session) with a clear veiw of the label. It sais RATE and the switch to the right sais MODE. My guess is that he added a second LFO. Originally the two "channels" of the LFO (tremulant) has separate waveform and modulation depth, but it's still at the same rate. My guess is that the mode is for having the two channels with separate LFO rates or to use the same. It would really add to the flexibility of making patches!

Excellent pics, you can't get any closer than that, except maybe by taking it home after the shooting session. Have a look on the blue lighted pic, there's some extra writing around the switch and the extra knob that's not there on any other pic.
For the switch it says INT A, B and the knob is surrounded with values 1-4.

Oh my... that was a very observant.
It's at least clear that it's a 3 state switch. But my theory that the switch and pot is used for adding a second LFO (tremulant) doesn't get stronger by these lables. Still possible though....making one o the other or each separate LFOs used.
But the 1-4 scale on the pot is making me wonder if it's a selector with descrete steps and not a stateless pot.
Anybody care to make a guess if these mods where made before of after the recording of Oxygene and Equinoxe?

Luckily there's a closeup capture of the RMI in the Equinoxe 5 video, but no mods as far as I can see.

Aha... interesting text.... modifications made by Angel Freddy. If my french doesn't fail me he "added something for opening and closing the filter" - sounds like an envelope for the filter.
Now, the filter on the original does have some primitive envelope, so a more flexible envelope would be useful.
However what's more obvious in the pictures are the amp envelopes for each channel that are modified. The original have only AD or AR envelopes. The picutures shows clearly that they have been replaced by ADSR envelopes. I tend to think that the journalist misunderstood what the modifications where about, although I have great respect for the journalists of Keyboard Magazine (french edition). I read it for some years in the early 1990s....
The added knob and switches could be some ways to modulate the filter by the new envelopes.......
OK sorry for this massive speculation.... I guess only J-M Jarre and Angel Freddy can give us some straight answers...

I do think though that the Oxygene 5 bass sequence sounded lame on the Live in your Living Room DVD. Actually all of the sounds where he needed the RMI for sounded below par.
Wondering if this is just the patch settings or if further processing was applied on the '76 album.
