R2-D2 sounds are not going from an ARP.
They were made with an OBERHEIM OB-1...
Funny story : the name of this synth is at the origin of the name "OBIWAN KENOBI"

Well, I didn't actually investigate this, I just remember reading it somewhere and made a joke out of it. It makes sense (OB1=Obiewan), thanks

No they are.
I asked Ben Burtt himself. He said he experimented with both a Moog Modular and the ARP2600, opting for the 2600 - as it sounded more 'otherworldly'.
In the end the R2 sounds are a combination of ARP2600 and Ben's own vocal noises.

my top 3...
Roland Fantom X... just because I use it a lot at the moment. So easy to use (10 years with the XP-80 helped a lot) and sounding so good!
Yamaha SY-99 that I will probably buy tomorrow (don't know where I'll find space for it yet).
Yamaha CS-80 that I certainly wouldn't want to have at home, unless I have a good technician taking care of it for free every month, and a full-blown recording studio.

Only had one synth in my like, a Korg Poly 800. So thats my number 1(Gave it back to my brother when I moved,wish i'd kept it.) Now all I have is a Yamaha PSR 225 which I bought for its piano. A keyboard i have played with and like was a Yamaha CS1-X or 2-X,not sure. It was a blue thing that impressed me and left me wanting.
Also having heard what it can do I want a DX7. Just how hard is it to program?

As time goes taste changes. I had to renew my little list...
My top 3:
* Yamaha GX-1 (The king of analog synths)
* Roland JD-800 (A "digital CS80". The king of pads)
* DSI Prophet 08 (The best allround analog synth on the market today. No doubt about it)

This is too hard to me. But something like Good Analog/VA (Alesis Andromeda/Virus TI Snow/DSI Polyevoler) and Good samplebased workstation (Roland Fantom X7/Juno Stage/Tr76 i think becouse i think better string than motif offers)
and Maybe fm synth (Yamaha FS1r) or Additive synth (k5000r). last
ps. i chosed only form never instruments becouse these are often more reliable instruments. But when i chouse synths what jarre are used tai still uses is maybe Arp odyssey (i tested software 2600 its bit too hard to me and i understading jarre also used odyssey),Eminent 310u and Fantom X7 (i know jarre uses fantom x8 not x7 but i cannot use hammeraction and engine is most imporant).
