Ok a small request. At the moment where I don't know much about this LA synthesis, I feel pleased with all those patches Jarre used to play around with.
Im looking for SysEx files of the synthsequence used in Revolutions (the track) and the lead used in September. I have not been able to find them among any of the patch libraries I have.
A little help with these is appreciated
I have some files called p50 which I don't know how to handle, SoundDiver?

I guess you really should go on Epo's website which contains a fully library of patches for the D50, he is registered on this forum, let me find his website

For some reason I didn't notice the website you posted before last night. Thanks a lot of linking to that, I found the patches I was looking for, and in .syx format

And a french book about the LA synthesis has been posted, if you are courageous enough to translate it all, this is a gold mine for everybody looking for infos about the synthesis of the D50 !
It has been written by Thierry Fish, well known in the french world of the D50 !

I rememberd a certain site where there was a whole bank of Jarre sounds but I cant remember the site anymore. The bank was created by Radek so maybe you should ask him.

This is the one I pointed I guess, as there are most of the patches if not all of them Radek created

Nah not this one. This one I know but there is another one. These are all individual patches. I'm talking about a complete bank with 64 patches.

Hello all. I just picked up another D-50 (had one back in '91). I
just used the factory stuff back then and since have been just
playing guitar. I started to write again, picked up my fav
keyboard. So now I find all this great stuff online to expand and
need to catch up with the technology. Here's my setup. I use cubase
and have a usb connection through the Lexicon Omega. A couple
questions.

1. Do I need a program to play these sounds through or load them onto
the D-50? Is that where a progrm like Sound Diver comes into play?
Where can I get Sound Diver? I keep reading about it, but it appears
emagic was bought out and can't seem to find it.

2. I'm assuming I need these patches in .syx format. If I download
all of these .syx patches are they simply played through my computer
with the D-50 acting like a midi controller of sorts or do I have to download them to the D-50 each time I want to use them?

3. Can I download the patches into the internal memory then dump them onto a ROM Card for easier access?


Just trying to make sure I'm on the right track.

The subejct has kind of been discussed before, and some would probablt knock me out for bringing this topic to the surface once again.
I have become very interested in checking out the original sounds of the D-50... those memory cards. They appear as bank SysEx files. I have gladly managed the D-50 with the D-50 Virtual Edtor beta version, but it doesn't seem to handle bank files. I read soemthing about that this program was supposed to handle bank files. Have I missed something?
I did a google search for various editors, but all interesting links were broken.
Sound DIver has been mentioned, but that is far from cheap and does a lot more than what I need, so I don't want to pay such money. Im quite lost here. How do I manage these bank files... for free and easily? Those small and simple devices like the D50 VE are nice, my bloodpressure gets high, when I have to deal with a small transfer through MIDI sequencers etc.

Hmm I was just playign with my D-50 today and suddently one of the keys didn't work. It doesn't trigger any sound and doesn't react when I push it for the transpose function. I have struggled with patchbuttons as if they could need some cleaning, could it be the same here or worse? It just stopped working

I had same problem with my JX 10 with two keys so I just open the front and take the two keys and the rubberstrip and clean key contacts under the rubberstrip.And now they work.

I should try that. Perhaps I can clean those patch buttons too. I hope it solves the problem. Just the cabinet itself is always more dusty than my other synths.

The D50 contacts seem to be prone to malfunction,especially with older models not looked after,dust and grime are usually the main culprits,the D50 I bought was the same,but nothing a good clean up won't solve,the Numeric buttons and patch select buttons are a little more awkward to remedy,mainly because over the years of being pressed the pads on which they rest to trigger the circuits wear down,so after many years they need pressing down harder and further,eventually not working at all,they can be repaired but you'll need to do a little bit of soldering work or buy a total replacement circuit board for the given buttons.

Not sure what spares availibility,is for the D50 but if its anything like the JD800 fiasco I've had of late trying to remedy my Keybed(Roland decided to change the Keybeds part way through production)and of course my model had the earlier keybed,meaning the spares are not availible,so have to replace the whole keybed and circuitry,Fuji card and keycontacts,which has been a bloody nightmare,I'm still waiting for a part at the moment this was 6 weeks ago.I can still use it via Midi,but at the moment its sat in a corner looking all sorry for itself with no keyboard assembly.

I think just about every D50 Owner I've known seems to have had the same issues after buying an older model,well they are 20 years old now...Nothing a good clean won't resolve
