Those dry sounds really sounded to be my style, but I have wanted a K2000 for a long time anyway.

Of course you can share these sounds if you like.
These were just some live recorded presets from my K2000R.

All K2000s can have the same sounds. The VP version was just a last revision with a different external color (more on the blue side) 2MB of RAM and the presets 0-199 of the K2VX, which were the same of the K2500.
But once you load .krz programs, the sounds are the same, with the only difference being the prestets in the effect section.

Actually Kurzweil use the object oriented OS, meaning that if you save a preset in a Floppy disk, only the preset is saved, unless you decide to include its depended objects (like RAM samples or dedicated presets effect.) And you can store many presets and depending objects in one .krz file
So if you have the VP version your older patches may have a different effect setting, since the presets effects were slightly different between versions. You can always load also the factory presects effect from the same period of your older patch and have the right sound.

The main differences in the factory presets between K2000 models are due to the setup eproms and not directly to the OS version number.

In 1991 the K2000 was shipped with the early presets of version 1.0
About 1993 the 1.3 version appared and the great part of K2000s out there have these presets.
In 1996 the K2VX wa launched with the two ROM expansions fitted and a lot more of presets already loaded.
In 1998 the VP version replaced the K2000, altough only for the preloaded factory sounds and the 2 MB of RAM.

So JMJ for Chronologie had the version 1.0 available; I never looked well among those sounds I must admit, but I once spotted a factory sound for track...........................

Ah yes, the K2000... one of those synths with Jarre appearing on their ads. And as far as I've heard, Jarre was even involved in the sound design.

For many years, I dreamed of owning a Kurzweil. I even dreamed of adding a K2000 to my Jarre collection. Now we've got 2008, and I've got two (2) K2000s of my own.

– The first one is a keyboard, one of the very first from 1991, and unlike Jarre, it doesn't hide its age. But despite this, it is souped up quite nicely. When I bought it second hand, it already had OS V2.07, the fan kit, the sampling option, and 16 MB of sample RAM. Meanwhile, it has got OS V3.87, the full 64 MB, the P-RAM expansion, an internal 2.1 GB IBM HDD, and I've got a daughterboard with the Orchestral expansion lying around. I need to get this thing working. Well, this keyboard needs to see the shop sooner or later anyway.

– The second one is a K2000RS rack module from the V2 era. This one had been tinkered with in the past, too. I got it with full sample RAM and OS V3.54. I updated the OS to V 3.87 for more HDD space and added a 4.3 GB Seagate HDD which is a lot quieter than that IBM thing. The rack module is residing in my band rack.

Hunting Kurzweil options is fun... twice as much if you've got two Kurzweils to tune up.

OS version 3.0 came out in 1995.

btw, I have no idea for the revision 3.18J (which I have on mine) and the last revision 3.87J.

Does anybody has an idea on which expansion or CD I can find the preset named "Aurora" ?

It sounds to me like the patch "Time travel 3" made by Francis Rimbert on the JD-800 during the Chronologie period and which has been used for the Chronologie 6 intro in "Europe in concert"

Very pleased with what I have picked up this morning. K2000 v3 for £100. A couple of scuffs here and there and one of the black slider caps has been replaced with a white one - easy enough to replace it with a black one. It was advertised in my local newspaper "instrument sales" section and listed as "K200 mk3, good condition, offers welcome". As they were in the next town to me I popped over. It belonged to the sellers father who had passed away recently. They had no idea to what it was. They thought it was similar to Yamaha home keyboards, hence why they were asking for offers as they had no idea to how much it was worth. I saw the advert a couple of weeks ago and paid not that much attention to it as it was not listed as "Kurzweil" and thought it to be an error.
