Im still waiting for my copy that I ordered off the HMV site. Talk about slow.

I got mine from Tadlow like everyone else, about 3 weeks or so ago and I live in California! (This was for the 2CD + DVD version)

Tadlow is the best place to order from!

I asked from record store here in Finland; and they said that at the moment the only item they have on their importer`s release list, is CD version (with no mention of 2CD:s!). They couldn`t find it on Silva Screen`s imports, but only on EMI. :?

They must be a bunch of liers. :?

Had an email off HMV this morning saying they were out of stock of the album. They have no idea to when they will receive any more.

Well, after waiting a short length of time for my 2 disc version to arrive from HMV online, a quick turn around of 5 WEEKS, my set arrived this morning.

5 / 10 is what I give it.

I like the album, but then again I don't (if that makes sense)

Some tracks are more stronger than others and for those that are not, they (to me) just seem so cheesey to listen too. A couple made me cringe.

The strongest tracks on the whole album that really sparkle with there change over from synth to orchestral are:

The Last Rumba - Fishing Junks At Sunset - Gloria, Lonely Boy - Magnetic Fields Part 1 - The Emigrant (sounds like Elgar) - Rendez-Vous Part 2 & Acropolis - because they had that feel to them that was not fully synth from when they were originally done by Jarre.

Some tracks just sound so out of place with what Jarre conceived. For me it has to be the group of Industrial Revolution tracks. Industrial Overture sounds like it should been in a Arnold Schwarzenegger 1990s sci-fi film. Industrial Revolution Part 1 sounds weak and comes from a TV advert for a bank (I can imagine a horse galloping down a beach to this), Jarre original version knocks this track into next week. Part 3 is the better of those 3 but still sounds too mellow. Rendez-Vous 4 (I was expecting ABBA to start singing)

I know that this is someones elses take on Jarre, but the tracks are not what you would call mixed beyond recognition. They are close to original version. I applaud there good work, but they should have left it to the 'master'.

Mostly I agree with you, but I wanna give it a 6,5/10. You are a bit too austere for the album. Give it a chance!
IMO the worst of the album is the mixing/mastering. If that was done more professional, the album would be much stronger and better. Sometimes I hear clippings and the violins are too dominant.

I useully go with the 'first impression' counts. It's not a bad album, its just not good either. Certainly a worthwhile addition to your collection if your a JMJ fan, and I certainly will not regret buying it. I just found it to be a little bland and could have been much better.

The laser harp is a real catastrophe. The sound... well ok they probably had no idea how to recreate the sound. But the worst is that THE NOTES AREN'T RIGHT! :shock:

Whatever a HDCD is, but yeah, the album was recorded in High Definition. :)

That's true...but I knew that HDCD and DVD-A were standards for which special hardware equipment is needed.
Am I wrong (as usual.. :D )?
