I don't know if it really has anything to say, but on the backside of the Nord, it says v1.3 so I wonder what it says on yours? I have noticed a few updates on the NL2x, such as another springfeeling in the keys, and then those bended or bowed edges to the left and to the right of the keys that I have mentioned before. Further I suppose some other minor bugs have been fixed, such as bad audio out as reported by a few owners.

The NL2x is a nice synth, but, bloody hell, there are a ton of naff presets in this. But then presets aren't everything. Amoungst them there are some really nice sounds, but it's a slog at times to find them. But overall, I really do like this little synth.

Yes but as I said about those lame presets... more space for your own sounds In general I just think many of those presets sound too weak and thin, compared to those killersounds you can pull out of it.

Btw. check out the following patches:

1.15 - The bass from Together Now (Parlez-Vous Francais)
1.61 - Perhaps the syncsound from Together Now
1.84 - metallic sequence from Together Now (Parlez-Vous Francais)
1.88 - perhaps the horn-like sound from Together Now (Parlez-Vous Francais)

I think those are in the memory from the factory, but I once loaded some jarresounds into it so Im not quite sure.

I found the Prophet 5 patches. Nice, but I wonder how they compare to the original P5?.

Well put it this way,After Demoing the DSI PROPHET,I'm convinced you can coax the same Prophet emulations out of the Nords....so make of that what you will...


The Nords have their share of shit presets,Like most synths,most of which are just variations on the same patch,and it can be a nightmare with the Nords remembering where the decent patches are because of the Numbering system instead of a combo of Names/Numbers,(Which is even more a bitch,with a Sound PCMCIA Card in the back,as theres a few hundred extra sounds)but thats one of the great things about the Nords,Your not fooled into having preconceptions of what they sound like because of a Name.

Took a while to warm to the Nords sound,after already owning one several years ago,I wasn't totally bowled over with it the first time around but after all the Romplers I've owned over the years I've become sick of over exaggerated presets swamped with tons of FX,the Nord does exactly what it says on the tin so to speak,so theres no gimmicks,and everything you need is on the front panel,As Jakob said, you can pretty much coax it into any sound you want,Ok not everybody's cup of tea soundwise,but especially the MK2 has been a huge seller over the years,and still continues to,the Nord don't pull any tricks they are just simply raw sounding synthesizers,even if you have a tonne of presets you don't need there's always some you will find good use for and be able to tweak others to your liking without too much effort.

I'm cheating with remembering where each patch is I like, I just right it down in a notebook . I understand what you mean about the Nord, it is (as you say) does what it says on the tin with no messing about. I'm currently going through all the sounds again and for a 2nd listen, liking the synth even more.

I must admit, but for a synth that is made of metal, my AX1 is heavier. It supprised me how light it is, yet it's built like a tank.

The notebook solution is a good one indeed I just use the notebook on my computer, however I know where most of my patches are. Another really cool thing is the 4 slots, so you can change bewteen 4 sounds located different places in the memory. Besides that as long as a patch is asigned to the slot buttons and you don't scroll using the arrows, they don't change back to the original patch. This means that you can quickly do a layersound using the same patch but with different values. I don't know why they stripped down the 4 slots to 2 on the Nord Wave.
The slotbuttons are also very useful when performing. Just as JMJ during the Oxygene Tour '97, he could easily change between the hornlead, noise and RMI lead.
In many ways the wooden pitchstick is also pretty cool. It allows you to add am alternative kind of vibrato that sounds more alive compared to pitchbenders with a zeropoint.
Another thing is the modwheel which has more options for quick change. It means that you can quickly change between 5 options (Morph, OSC2, LFO1, FM, Filter).

I'm curious to know, but why does it read 1.2 on the front panel of the 2x above the "Made in Sweden by Clavia" logo, then on the rear panel it reads v1.3 below the Clavia logo. The v1.3 must be the softwear, but what about the 1.2. Does this refer too the original released NL2 and not the 2x.

Perhaps they printed the front panel while they were still shipping units with 1.2 software and by the time the synth was ready to leave the factory they already had 1.3 software and thus had that printed on the back panel.

Perhaps they just had too much Swedish beer!

I haven't got much knowledge about Swedish beer, but I know that many Swedes come to Denmark to buy our beer.
