A little part of me rolled about the floor laughing too... why? there's a Roland Phantom X8 sitting downstairs (I'm on holiday btw...) and all I could visualise was my OHs dad going behind FRs back with a cuppa and then pressing buttons and asking questions....

We all know which hands best suit the X8........................
Abi,

there is a topic dedicated to Francis exclusively. :) In other musician section.

I hope at least that, if he releases a concert, it is going to be in 1080p and BluRay, I have not bought all that HD stuff for nothing :P

This is the issue. Blu-ray was about when Oxy-LIYL hit the shops, yet it was only released on DVD. Since that release, no sign of a Blu-ray version of that gig. I never really understood the point of LIYL on DVD format only, specially when the concert was shot in hi-def 3D. Same applies to the Gdansk concert. . . . . Or, were they not good sellers.

I don´t know why Jean-Michel doesn´t use new or quality media.
Previous years (or now) a lot of "pop-rock-synth" groups or composers used DVD-Audio, SACD or quality vynils but Jarre not. Some of them use separate mastering processes for digital media and analog vynil versions.
I hope that new Jarre´s project will not be at DVD-Video and CD only.

Jarre use to pride himself for being ahead of the game in technology. Now, like his keyboards, he is going back in time. The next release will be a 75rpm gramophone record  .

About time, the 75rpm gramophone record was given an uplift.

It's not up to JMJ, but the record company. They will only release on newer media if they think it would be economically viable. SACD and DVD-A were fantastic niche formats - and utterly ignored by the general public.
Blu-Ray replication is still very expensive compared to DVD, so record companies will release only big sellers on this format for now.
Back in the 80's JMJ was a big seller, and was one of the first artists released on CD, and sold huge amounts on this format. JMJ DVD sales were pretty good, but rights issues delay his back catalogue of concerts.
I'm sure if it was up to JMJ, his releases would be on the highest resolution formats.

2010 Tour - The 02 Dublin The 02 London (10-10-10)

I think Pat is right with his analysis.
