What is the adaptor model used on jp8000?

SH201 has PSB-1U

Jakobus has never heard about dry, wet and mix? :smoke:

It's built in, you only need a power cord like the one you use for your computer ;)

Does the SH need an adaptor? :robertdugenou:

Dunno, but I have one. (My SH came from Rolands Denmark warehouse)

But how about you, Jakob?

For the powersupply?

On the synth is says "use Roland PSB-1u adaptor only". The powersupply itself doesn't say anything about that, it says AC adaptor ACI-230C. I suppose everything about that is correct but I don't really have much knowledge about electricity etc. :)

Well, all my synths just need a powercord, not an adaptor. All have adaptors built-in.

Neither do I, I suppose everything about that is checked when I buy a synth (which has been from shops all the way). I suppose it doesn't mather whether it is in Finland or Denmark.

Synths that use the "Kettle lead" (3 Pin) all have internal Power supplies,(Or 2 pin Like the Virus)anything that is not of that standard is usually a Transformer type PSU,with the Current being Converted by the Wallwart supply(Black box) before it reaches the Synth, the Adaptors for the synths are all the same for that particular model of synth you buy and the same with the 3 Pin synths, its the Plug which connects to your mains which differs,so a UK sold SH201 Adaptor will be the same as a Danish one,the conversion of Power will be done inside the Adaptor box, they usually differ from the conversion dependant on the Countries mains supply, but the synth itself will run on 12 Volts irrespective if its bought in a different country

Not every synth has the capacity to house an Internal PSU,as not every synth needs the same Voltage to run its circuits, some only need 9 or 12 volts so it needs to be converted somewhere along the Lines either before it reaches the Synth or internally via a transformer, the majorit of Lower Voltage units are externally converted so fitting a transformer inside isn't always practical or needed, dependant on the circuit layout, plus a lot of its is down to Heat Dissapation, usually many synths that are smaller units tend to have less Area for the Heat to circulate so need to have external Power supply otherwise they would suffer Heat Problems, and Circuit damage.those that do have internal PSU in smaller casing tend to have vents to help air flow....

Just look at the heat sink on the Back of the MemoryMoog....and you see what type of heat some circuits are capable of creating

I can never understand why some of these synths have external Power supplies, they can fit a 1U synth rack with an internal PSU,so why not all small synthesizers, they can do the voltage conversion inside for sure so theres No need for external Transformers, even wiht smaller synths theres room for air flow and and Internal transformer

I hate those external Power Supplies...

Transformer! that is the word I know 8)

The left one is for the SH and the right one is for the Nord:

The left model is a transformer, this converts the Voltage before it reaches the Synth, there usually needed to reduce the Voltage from the standard Mains rating, the other lead is a standard type connection(Like the 3 pin,the Virus uses the 2 pin like the nord)These cable plug directly into the mains and to the synth, the synth then has an internal Power transformer, you can tell if a synth has internal transformer as it will get warm...

Exactly! 8) I once had a problem with my Nord getting too warm (or warmer than usual) after some time and the audio output started sounding strange, very noisy.

Damn, with the plug of the NL, I'd be afraid not to have the "ground" plug, my JP8k has the ground plug, and that's the only synth I own which has one, that's why sometimes, when I touch my D50 for example, I have a little electric shock :|

The D50 should have an earth on its plug socket internally its socket is 3 Pin...even if your European mains only uses 2,the earth is just missing from the Cable, but there is an earthwire connected inside from the Socket to the Transformer.

If your getting a Mild shock from it,then its not earthed correctly inside, most synths have a grounding strap inside which is usually screwed to a metal part or circuit in the synth and then to the Metal casing this will stop any static build up that could damage the Circuits or mild shocks to any who touched the Metal...if you have no grounding strap connected the only way the static will be earthed is Via You when you touch it.Probably why your getting a Shock

The JP is plastic so you wouldn't get a shock irrespective of the earth being removed/Disconnected

Do you get a Shock everytime you touch the D50,if it doesn't happen all the time then it could just be the Static building up in your body, and the D50 is absorbing the energy It could even be built up from you walking on the Carpet in your room,as soon as you touch the metal parts its absorbed and you get the shock on connection, some types of Carpets create friction when we walk on them, especially if your wearing nylon socks too which builds up static in out bodies,we don't notice it till we touch a metal part which channels it out.Try touching the D50 with some rubber soled trainers or shoes and see if it still gives you a shock If it happens all the time when you touch it I'd say its not Grounded inside..Its not normal to receive a shock from a chassis on a synth like that
