Hahaha, what's wrong with the sequence man, don't tell me the timbre!??
As I think that's the only thing I got right on that version. Don't forget, this is an old arrangement done back in Dec 2006.

I agree with you about the strings, I shaved off too much high content, which I fixed in later versions. I think I was tring to experiment with the right and left channels - as Jarre's strings are different on right and left. I ended up with a thinner sound which is what Jarre has on the left channel (on your version  ), not to mention the strings are mono.
Without faith nothing is possible. With it, nothing is impossible.

The left channel Strings on Jarres are just simply a delay of the original sound.

yes, but they are tape delayed (which degrades high freq). They have less of a mid presence and definately less in the highs.

Tape saturation!
A tape delay will never contain the same harmonics as the original sound.thats part of the ommisions on using Magnetic tape.
Also perfectly feasible to EQ the delayed part prior to sending it back to mix down.I'm not saying its a Mirror signal of the original with all the Frequencies present off the original, its simply a delayed signal of the original track, nothing to stop Jarre sending part of that signal off to a delay and then eqing the tail signal seperately on a Mono buss and then combining it back into the main path with the Original Strings.

Sequence sound sounds nice.
Though I'm really sensitive to that sound, because it's my favorite Jarre sound of all time, so It's not quite the same.

Though I'm pretty sure you can never get it perfectly right because Equinoxe and Oxygene recordings had a very organic texture, probably due to tape saturation or other distortions due to old equipment. Which is why I love the first two albums so much.

Here is another sound I've been wondering about

In Equinoxe 6, the Square wave sequence in 7-steps that comes in slowly at around 0:26 (original master CD time at least)

It sounds typical ARP2600 to me, but who knows...

any ideas?

and one more:

Equinoxe 6 , there is a sequence that comes now and then throughout the piece in a descending fast fashion, best example at around 3:12 (original master edition)
It's a pulse wave sound.

Quijada : delay L / R

can you confirm ?

First thing is a horn-like sharp pad in Ethnicolor1, in the part where the drums start and the piece explodes toward the end.
I always thought it is Oberheim OBX-a, but It could perhaps be a Prophet 5 too, so does anyone know which one is it?

Then there is the brass lead in Oxygen 8, which I think is Moog 55, but am not sure.

Then the sequence at the start of Equinoxe 4, is that ARP 2600?

Then there is Orient Express chords from China, which I think is possible Prophet 5, but who knows

I can't think of any other, perhaps I will later, but
if anyone has any way of confirming these uses of instruments or debunking ot has any other kind of insight, please help me out.

Thanks
...if my mind is not too defragmented ;-) I remember Vinceblood -who was in contact with Michel Geiss- said that the lead sound in Oxygene 8 was programmed on the ARP 2500...

As to the Orient Express chords, I'd say that they sound really Oberhemish.
Magnetic Fields sound character is really related to the OB-X and Fairlight.
So my bet is on OB-Xa with its tipical Pulse waveforms for Orient Express.

I am also not 100% convinced that the Equinoxe 4 sequence is from the ARP 2600.
The brassy character may fit the nature of the Oberheim SEM (and its derived models)
The Oberheim 2 pole filter has the characteristic of not loosing level (volume) as you increase the resonance.

I own an OB-X since the beginning of this year and I am doing some maintenance to it (though I am not as skillful as someone on this forum.) It is a great sounding machine.
I have done the keyboard upgrade to replace the gone bushings on the keys that make the keyboard sticky and quite awful to look at (one key up, the next down and so on...); it was quite a long job done in the spare time of the weekends... And of course all the keys had a ticket to ride in the dishwasher!
Now I have bought the MIDI retrofit from Encore and I am close to the important upgrade (though I have to create the holes in the rear panel for the MIDI sockets and I am not that excited about it. I'll probably need some help by a professional then!)

Interesting input thanks

Radek here says that the info about Equinoxe4 sequence being ARP came from Geiss

And as for Orient, it was performed live, so all it takes is someone who had seen the show to comment

By the way, is Vinceblood a member here?
