Credits

Jean Michel Jarre - keyboards, synthesizers and drum programming: Korg Radias, Moog Voyager, Roland MC-808, Roland Fantom-X-8, Roland V-Synth, Access Virus, SH-201, ProTools HD3; vocals (Vocoder-filtered) on "In the Mood for You".

Claude Samard - string arrangements, guitars, programming, Cubase, Digital Performer, Halion strings, Absynth, Lag guitars, ProTools HD3.

Francis Rimbert - keyboards and synthesizers: Roland Fantom-X-8, V-Synth, ProTools digi 02

Tim Hüfken - Groove Box special programming and artistic collaboration: Groove Box MC-808 and Sonar Sequencer

Bertrand Lajaudie - additional programming

Anne Parillaud-Jarre: additional vocals on "Beautiful Agony"
I think - like Glenn mentioned - the presets were made especially for T&T, on MC808 prototype... Plus.. After discovering rhytms by people, the interest in MC808 increases - so JMJ and Roland are happy :)

One of the greatest tools an artist can possess is sadness and loneliness.
For then the music can come from deep within ... emotive, meaningful, reflective.

I feel JMJ is happy with Anne.
T&T expresses this ... thus possibly does not reflect the depth of his other works.

RE MC808 :
IMO until the facts are known,
the more probable explanation is that JMJ & Tim did the grooves and accompaniment together
on a prototype, a while ago ... he has been on and off this album for about 3 years or so.
And given that he had 50 pieces to choose from,
some of the 50 he chose (6) happen to have the work he did with Tim.
Which being on a prototype MC808 later found its way into the official MC808.

1. JMJ is smart enough to know, and his lawyers would have told him that
plagerism (there is copyright involved) would land him open to litigation.

2. JMJ would also know that it would damage his credibility.

3. JMJ would Not have made it so obvious as to So boldly credit it on the album sleeve notes.

I believe it is an honour for Tim to have worked with JMJ.
And thus be able to put this work on a machine that could then be used by many people.
Thereby increasing Tim's own profile.
I feel Tim asked JMJ if it was ok to put this work on the MC808.
And JMJ, as he did when helping Patrick Rondat on his album, was happy to oblige.

Anyhow this is my speculation ... no facts as yet.

O.K, in simple terms. Jarre is not credited to the MC-808 grooves heard on the T&T album on Roland publicity material, but Tim is. He created them for Jarre to use on the T&T album, while at the same time working for Roland - with Tim & Roland agreeing to the usage of them for the T&T album, hence the "nod" in the albums sleeve notes to Roland and the MC-808 - Everyone's happy, everyone gets a mention, Roland and Jarre have sales for their products. . . . . . . . And we get another synth with Jarre sounds on (and a lot more easy)

Just a thought, but what about the 808's bigger brother MC-909, does this have the same sounds.

Big brother? It's its small brother. 808 is twice 909 ;)

According to the Roland 2007 catalog, the 909 is the "flagship" model out of the two.

I'm not sure what your trying to emply here. It's not really a big deal, just an observation. I was merely stating a fact that the official Roland Catalog lists thie 909 as a "Flagship" model (not my words, but that of Roland), even though they do say (as you have already pointed out) the 808 is twice the 909. Plus the list price of the 909 is more than the 808 anyway.

It's quite strange how Roland names his devices. The TR-808 was followed by the TR-909 after a couple of years while now the MC-808 follows the MC-909 after a while. From a certain point of view Equinoxe5 is right, the MC-909 was meant as the flagship and you can notice this by the fact that it is more complete in terms of connections (digital I/O, number of outs) expandibility via SRX expansions, velocity sensitive pads, big display; on the other side the MC-808 have surpassed the older brother in terms of raw power, RAM and the motorised faders, which makes GJ also right. The match ended in a draw, so I suppose now that the extra time with golden goal is needed... :D

OK, here's me throwing a baseballbat in the chickencage.

One thing here makes me shake my head a lot.

So what if JMJ used presets on his new album, why is it a problem for so many PPL here?

Why do they come up with all sorts of lame excuses to defend it? Especialy the "defend it" part. Some of you make up the most rediculess story about him being involved in creating those sounds etc... In essence you're saying the most obvious thing is not OK, you're not willing to accept that JMJ just pushed a button to make an album (a good album IMO)

Why is it so hard for many of you to accept the obvious? Why not just except it and enjoy the music?

Explain this to me why this would not be OK?

You are right, the fact is there, he pushed a button for the rhythmic part.
But a track is not only composed of rhythm, there are additional parts !

People become mad because JMJ used that for 3 tracks, but how many artists use it aswell ? There is no shame to use that, synths would be given with an empty memory if that was a crime !
