Yes. A few days ago I was searching for info about the Travelator EP but instead of writing "Jean Michel Jarre & Pete Townshend" I Wrote "Jean-Michel Jarre & Julia Holter" (maybe because I was listening her last CD a lot this last weeks).

Then, Amazon showed me a result: "Jean-Michel Jarre & Julia Holter. Currently unavaillable". But there was a file with that name!!!

I decided then to try all the names that we all suppose there will be in the record and every one of them has its file except one: David Lynch.

Once I've checked the "well known" colaborators, I try some other names that JMJ has told about in recent interviews, the artist he follows in twitter... and that's how the names of Peaches, Pet Shop Boys and Primal Scream were "discovered".

No "inside help" at all. As the Pet Shop Boys said in one of my favourite songs: "It's easy when you got all the information, inside help, no investigation".

I just wonder what's the connection between David Lynch and electronic music?
For me he's known for his movies and that deep old school guitar sound.

Vangelis has stated years back his lack of interest in JMJ's music - a collaboration is very unlikely. This was emphasised when a suggestion of a guest appearance at either of each other's concerts in Greece in 2001 was dismissed emphatically by Vangelis' representatives ...

This surprises me.
Must been decades ago.
Because they would go against the present time "music mystic" sayings of Vangelis.
Vangelis these days being more " mystically advanced " would express more openness,
Particularly the subtle mystic elements in Oxygene Equinoxe Vangelis missed decades before.


If I was to broadly compare JmJ & Vangelis music
JmJ : otherness, elsewhereness
Vangelis : humaneness.

Jarre also answered why he hasn't asked Oldfield during that Facebook hour where you could ask him questions. Something with more being a guitarist and using actual instruments rather than electronic music. Which I find odd considering he also asked Cindy Lauper who did mostly pop music and Pete Townshend. But it's up to Jarre himself of course.

Also, I've never heard of that Vangelis story. How weird considering that he's done many, many, MANY collaborations with other artists over his carrier. So I find it weird how he finds Jarre uninteresting or whatever it's exactly. Weird, but can't help it I guess ^^

I think I remember reading in one of the Mike Oldfield biographies ('A Man And His Music' from memory) that Mike didn't like Jarre's work. I think the quote went along the lines of 'I'm surprised 'Tubular Bells' didn't inspire more people to write music like it. Sure, you had Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene and [I can't remember the other album] but I thought they were both crap!' :shock:

I'm not sure if he has warmed to the maestro over time though seeing as a lot of his later stuff is very Jarre-related! :nod:

Did he ask someone from the Kraftwerk crew? I mean even if JMJ wasn't precisely overwhelmed by their colder music style they played a very important role in the history of electronic music.

In all fairness, I know many that hate a lot of Jarre's work wit h a passion. All the swoops and diddles and plings just irritates the hell out of them. I can understand where they're coming from, there are a few tracks that really have a few effects too many.

Vangelis is currently collaborating with the rapper GZA

So I believe that there would not be some restriction to collaborate with Jarre now.
