Studio Masters, so I will burn a DVD-A to play those in High Resolution audio - can't wait !

How do this work then. Where from?

How do this work then. Where from?
The Studio Masters are available for per-order from www.qobuz.com
They will have a number of lossless formats to download, and then you can either:
1. Playback via PC Mac with a software player and compatible soundcard.
2. Playback via PS 3 / USB
3. Burn to DVD-Audio using suitable software, and playback via DVD player with ability to read DVD-Audio discs - most ordinary DVD players can't.

qobuz are only one of many sites taking pre-orders for downloads. What makes them different is that you can pay progressively more for increased quality: mp3, CD and Studio Master.

How will the the studio master differ from the actual cd release quality wise. As the cd is the actual physical release of the studio master what will the difference be if put onto a dvd. If you rip the cd to flac for your computer or media player you have an exact copy of the disk.

What format does the studio master come down in. flac, mp3 or audio file, In which case you already have the best quality with the cd release. So why spend another £8 on what you already have.

Or do i have this totally wrong

Found this about mastering.

Making a CD generally involves four steps:

Recording.
This is the process of capturing your performance onto a physical medium like tape or a computer's hard disk.

Mixing.
This is the process of blending together multiple recorded tracks using a mixing console; the usual result is a two-channel, stereo performance.

Mastering.
In this phase, your recording is balanced, equalized, and enhanced so your finished product will be both more musical and more competitive in the marketplace.

Replication.
In this final step, your digital audio master is transferred to a glass master and thousands of copies are made.

If you're not mastering your recording, you are leaving out what could be a crucial step in the making of your CD. Your master is the template for thousands of your CDs to be produced for commercial release. 
Mastering enables your recording to faithfully reproduce your vision, making it the most musical and commercially competitive it can be, and bridging the technological gap between the artist's recording equipment and the listener's stereo system. Mastering can make a huge difference in the competitiveness and musical value of your product — and it is also the greatest bargain in the entire workflow of making a CD.

Yes your getting it wrong, although the .MP3, CD and Studio Masters all come from the same source, the quality for the first two is many times lower then the Studio Masters. The CD is 16bit/44.1 KHZ, and the .MP3 I don't know in which quality it will be released, but I can assure it's even many times lower then the CD. However they both are made from the Studio Masters, which is the highest quality available at a resolution of 24bit/96Khz :)

Mastering is something different then the Studio Master :wink:

The Studio Masters are just that - direct from the studio at 96kHz / 24 bit. CD quality is as Shadow says 44.1kHz / 16 bit - a big diference. I have quite a few DVD-Audio discs, and the difference between them and their CD counterparts is huge.
From my point of view, it's about time that JMJ embraced high resolution audio - after all his recordings from Oxygene 7-13 onwards were all 96kHz / 24 bit native. All his concerts from China 2004 onwards were HD video - get the finger out man ! :-)

Ok thank you guys for clearing that up. I take it the file size is much bigger then. Is this why it's put onto a dvd.

Is there any masters i can check out anywhere.
