For me it's just the opposite, but nevermind the artwork - at the end of the day it's the music that matters, and Jarre really delivers on this one.

I lucked out with the lottery and got the "good" cover artwork on my LP.
After one listen I can say that it works rather well as an album, even including the weird movement 6 (cue the remix contest :mrgreen:).
The occasional nods to the original are much appreciated, especially the "band-in-the-rain ...

After listening to the first two movements I really like what I hear so far (aside from the "deafwater" mastering, obviously... :wink:)

As for the artwork and the surrounding ideas behind the album ... not a fan at all.
It would have been more fitting to have it presented as a straight continuation ...

Not a fan of the second artwork, either.
To me this looks like what the end of Oxygene Part 20 sounds like.
Can we please stop the dystopianism and get some optimism back, please...

I recently managed to pick up one of the 12" single releases of Oxygene 8 for a few bucks ... and if the prices listed on Discogs are anything to go by, none of those are expensive at all (even promo copies).

The 7-13 album on the other hand tends to go for ridiculous triple-digit sums, which seems ...

Btw. I wonder if the "Dadwater" pseudonym is something like "Alan Smithee" ;)

Based on those comparisons I personally would definitely pick the 1997 LP (if I could get my hands on one without paying an arm and a leg, that is... ;) ).
The 1997 CD (the only version I own) sounds ok-ish, though obviously a bit louder than I'd like.
As for the 2016 samples they overdid it with ...

Oh my... I did expect loudness issues with the mastering but this indeed so much worse than expected.
I'm really glad I decided to wait until I forked over that kind of money for the shoddy cash-grab that box set apparently is, but then again, I learned my lesson on the Star Wars vinyl box which was ...

So sad that this is the same record company that let Daft Punk get away with decent masters for Random Access Memories, yet JMJ gets it with the maximum compression hammer every time...
